Finally!

Last night the girls finished with church early so I was able to go run.  I ran 5.1 miles in about 56 minutes.  I've been trying to make it past 4 1/2 miles for awhile but could never do it.  I'm totally amazed I'm running 5 miles!  A friend has asked about running a half marathon.  I don't think I could ever run over 2 hours straight.  That's insane!  But then again I never thought in my wildest dreams of running for an hour.  But that's what I'm doing.  It's kind of cool.  :)

mermaid

This is the mermaid costume Karlee made for a school project.  I think it turned out great!

field trip

Carson had his one and only field trip as a Kindergartner Tuesday.  (I'm sure all my kids have had at least 2 a year.) They went to the Fort Worth Science and History Museum.  He had a great time.  His favorite part was after lunch running near, not through, the fountain.  :)

And hanging out with his friend Jaxson.

butterflies

Tonight we had dinner outside and the butterflies almost attacked us.  One landed on Carson's hand and we all touched his wings trying to get them to move.  I took over 20 pics hoping to get his wings open.

Another came along as was a little more willing.

spring

This time of year is so busy.  Between field trips, concert, musicals and end of the year projects.  Tonight we went to "Evening With the Experts" for PACE.  Its district wide, 2nd-5th grade students showing off their research project.  Mason did his on food allergies.  I think he did a great job.  We saw many friends their.  It was extremely crowded too.  Some of the projects were amazing.  I learned some interesting facts.

The girls had noticed on the blog that I took pictures of the boys in a bluebonnet patch in our neighborhood.  They both wanted a picture too.  So before bed we quickly took a few.

None of my kids like to miss out on the tiniest thing.  So... Geoff and Kinz if you want your picture taken too I know a place super close and someone that takes OK pictures if you're feeling left out.  ;)

broken

My poor washer needs help.  It has been broken for three weeks.  The repairmen came Monday morning at 8:15 then had to go buy different parts.  Once they started putting it all back together, the new tub/basket didn't fit properly.  We're now waiting for more parts and rescheduled for Thursday morning.  I hope it gets fixed soon.  I'm tired of the laundromat.  :-(

church prom

Friday night Bailee had her church Prom.  I think 5 Stakes joined together.  She sure looks all grown up.

Bailee found this updo on Pinterest.  We modified it a bit.  I think it turned out great. :)

I don't even know all these kids.  Garrett arranged for a stretch Hummer to take 18 people to the dance.  It only cost $33 each.  They all loved it!

These two sure look cute together.  ;)

Saturday schedule

Saturday ended being super busy.  At 9:30 Brian left for Stake Baptisms, then shortly after Bailee left for work. The rest of us headed out the door to run past a couple of stores before Carson's game.

Carson did great during the game.  He usually scores and this game he did again.  He seems to play best on defense though.

After lunch I took Karlee and her friend, Brittney, to buy supplies for a school project.  She is making a mermaid costume.  It's super cute.  I can't wait until she's finished so I can post pictures.  At 2:00 I hadn't made cupcakes for our Ward Easter Egg Hunt.  I debated on buying some.  I didn't want to spend $12 so when I got home I made these.  I finished at 4:45 and the social started at 5.  Talk about cutting it close.

The hunt was a huge success.  Lots of kids and lots of eggs.  After the eggs were gathered they had a cupcake walk.  You could go again and again.

Mason had many cupcakes.  I think we all did, without dinner first too.

While making dinner Brian helped Mason build an air hockey table.  It's small but works. Then just before bed we colored eggs.  I think we got everything finished that we needed to.  Whew!

Easter

With church being at 8:30, Easter morning came early.  The kids were up and showered by 6:30 so they could have time to check out their Easter baskets and hunt for eggs.

Of course Carson called the highest egg.  He was hoping I would let him climb up on the back of the couch.  A month ago I would have, but this furniture is new.  :)

Brian only had one appointment after church so he was able to make it home in time for lunch.  McKinzie, Geoff and Adam went to Mesa for the weekend to visit his sister and her family.  We miss them.

It's been quiet this afternoon.  Very nice.  Soon we will skype with grandparents.  It keeps getting better. :-)

Look what I found!!

Last night when I was running, 4 1/2 miles, I found bluebonnets in our neighborhood.  Imagine my surprise.  So today after a few errands the boys came with me for a few pics.  The people that live their actually lease the land behind their house and they have planted a few trees and seeded these wildflowers.  I love it!!  So now I can came back here every year.  Wahoo!!!

bluebonnets

I went out earlier, looking for bluebonnets, than last year and had lots of choices for pictures.  This is my usual spot, off 820 at the Quebec Exit.

Adam was loving it!

Adam didn't want to sit down.  I think it was bothering his bare legs.  I was able to distract him for a bit by asking him to smell the flower.  :)

I was just telling a friend that I love how old my kids are.  I love how independent they are. I love the things we can do because they are big.

But I also love how close Adam is to Carson.  He fits right in with my spacing between my kids.  Most people thinks he's my son.  I rarely correct them.  Carson will do that for me if he's with me. ;)

I hope McKinzie and Geoff don't mind that I treat him like my son.  I do many of the things with him that I've done with all my other kids.  I love children.  But I also love that he's my grandson.  I'm too tired for the schedule that little ones have.  ;)

1940 census

My sister, Brenda, sent me an email today with some interesting info about my grandparents.

"If you go to www.1940census.archives.gov it has some pretty cool stuff to look at.  It is kind of like a scavenger hunt.  I found Dad’s family in the state of Idaho, enumeration district 33-9, Image 3 of 14.  Dad is listed as 8 months old.  It shows Grandpa Steel only had an 8th grade education and his farm was worth $2000.  They misspelled the last name as Steele.

Mom’s family (mom not listed because she wasn’t born yet) is listed in the state of Idaho, enumeration district 22-20, Image 1 of 2.  Grandpa Hansen’s rent was $5. "

I also noticed that both Grandma Steel and Grandma Hansen finished high school.  While Grandpa Hansen only finished 2 years of high school.  I think I'll try and find Brian's grandparents.

btw ~ Mom passed away two years ago today.  I've tried to keep busy so I didn't have to think.  It hasn't worked very well for me.  All day long the only thing I've wanted to do is go hide somewhere and fall apart. :(

lost tooth

Carson lost his first tooth on the way home from school today.  He is super excited!

He read a book many months ago about a boy that received a gift under his bed from the tooth fairy.  Carson has talked nonstop about this boy ever since his tooth became loose.  I'm afraid he's going to be disappointed in the morning.

laundry

My washer died a couple weeks ago.  Luckily I only had one load left.  I called our home warranty company and I made an appointment.  Well, it was more than they wanted to repair so I had to make another appointment.  They decided that it could be repaired but it would take 10 days to get the parts.  Sigh....

Last week I used McKinzie's washer.  Since I was at her house it felt like I got nothing done but laundry.  Today I decided to go to a laundromat.  It took me 1 1/2 hours and $11 to wash 8 loads.  Not too bad.  The repairman is suppose to do the repair on Friday.  I hope the parts arrive soon or back to the laundromat I go.  :/
