Saturday night we were privileged to attend a flag retirement ceremony. One person told me that there were 50 flags to be retired and another thought 80. What ever the number, it was impressive.
All of the flags, but this one, had been prepared in advance. I had no idea that the stripes were separated from the blue. The flag is cut into three sections. They said they do not separate the blue so the union will stay intact.
Then one section at a time was placed into the fire. So 50-80 flags in three sections, we sat and watched the flame for quite some time. The kids went and had some cookies and hot chocolate, patriotic music was playing with a slide show, it was very peaceful.
Only 6 more months and Mason will be a cub scout and will be able to participate in events like these. He is getting excited!

Were you experimenting with black and white photography? Those pictures almost look like they were from a long time ago....nice touch for that ceremony! I like it!
